I just googled ‘how to start a blog post’ and finally found the words that inspired me enough to begin writing.  

Do you know how long it has taken me to put this first sentence on this page? Months. You know why? Because you never know when something is going to come out of the blue and how much that something will change your life forever.

Nearly three months ago, in April, I lost my mother. It was sudden, even though she had been unwell, we thought it was going to be figured out but when she was admitted into hospital, the absolute last thing on our minds was a funeral. But that is how it turned it out and I’m not ready to talk about it in any more detail than this, for now.

What I do want to talk about is how we manage our businesses when life throws it at you.  Because, life will throw it at you and everything can change in an instant.

So here are four crucial keys to help you in business when life punches you in the gut and catapults you into the unknown, with no warning.

  1. Replace Fear with Belief - Miracles literally happen in front of your eyes when you give more energy to your dreams than to your fears. Listen up, you will fail at times - that is part of what it means to be human! But guess what? When you whole-heartedly believe in the living freedom that your business can bless you with, you will keep going. And by holding your belief, by keeping on going on, you will learn the lessons you needed to learn!  You will grow stronger in knowledge and experience to become faster, smarter and more skilled. This is the most foolproof and powerful path to a business and life you love. 

  2. Become Constantly Consistent - We need to take action Every Single Day - no matter what. Find out what works best and stick to it, on a consistent, day by day basis to build your business.  Don’t waste time, procrastinating and pretending to find new and different ways to progress. Master what works and master what brings money - that is what you are in business for! Develop this discipline for the day that you will need to take a break. It is this rigorous practise which makes you strong, building muscles that help you to stand firm when everything else is lifted off the ground with chaos or uncertainty.
     

  3. Embrace Imperfection - Stop trying to be perfect.  To hell with perfect - to hell with it. Perfectionism is the root of procrastination and for a business owner, this will only keep you hostage. Perfectionism drains you all your inspiration, keeping you stuck in one horrible spot of indecision which just invites fear to come in and have a party - yuk. Whatever it is that you need to do, just do it.  Move on, get it done and be happy with it possibly not being the best it can be. With practise everything you do will get better. But that cannot happen if you are stuck, immobilised with fear of not being perfect. So just get over it, get it done, get moving and keep growing.

  4. Stay True - Be yourself, as they say, because everyone else is taken. This means, set out to develop a genuine relationship with your clients that is based on honesty, integrity and reliability. Then, when life happens and you get knocked over, you can be honest and say so.  If you are lucky enough to have clients like mine, they show up for you, they support you, and they don’t give up on you when you have to step away for a little while. I'm getting ready for my next business intensive retreat Gnó Le Croí / Business with Heart - which will be here in Gweedore on the 31st August I'm so grateful to all the people who shared their experience of the last one in March 2017 because there are only places left on the next one. 

So here I am, still strong, still grateful. One side of my life has everything I have ever wanted and the other there is a deep sorrow. I still believe that we can do anything we set our minds to. Moving closer to my dreams every day, without my mum to share them with, but still moving somehow … Knowing more than ever that we cannot wait until we are ready, until things are perfect.

So that is my message today in this blog. Nothing in this life can prepare you for that moment when your life is changed in ways that are totally beyond your control. This is just a fact. But you can develop strong roots in your business that mean it will support you when you need it to and be there when you are able to return.

Spring Clean Your Dreams - Three keys to double your income, make your dreams come true and make a difference in your world.

It is already April and that time of the year when successful entrepreneurs Spring Clean their dreams. That's exactly what I've been doing, and I want to show you three keys that can help you do the same, so that you can inspire your way to more sales.

I spent last week in Florida, sharing my message with over 125 business owners at a major international conference. Many of the people I connected with are coming to Donegal for the third Gnó Le Croi business retreat in August here in Gweedore!

Wow it felt so good to just let go up on that stage, to speak from my heart and make an impact with my story of leaving my job in London - 5 years ago this April. And how, in the last 18 months, I’ve built a consistent 25k monthly revenue, when I got clear on what lit me up and filled me with inspiration. It dawned on me at the Gnó Le Croí retreat / Business with Heart that I can help make people’s dreams come true. What an honour. That weekend was a game changer for me. On Thursday 2nd March, 29 of the most heart-led, committed and honest entrepreneurs I have ever met (and have the pleasure of working with), made their way to West Donegal (Coolest place on the planet according to Nat Geo) to join me for three days of intensive business building - three days!!. They came from all over, from London to Galway, Belfast to Dublin. They arrived with open minds and a willingness to get down to work. And we worked! And we made magic happen. This is what it’s all about for me, to see their success bring such pride and joy was really powerful. I am so proud of my clients and I’m 100% invested in helping them double their income again!

So how do you double your income and make your dreams come true? I won’t share just one way, I will share three!

1. Get uncomfortable - the fact is that if you are not profitable, then you are comfortable. You’re taking the easy route and settling for mediocre. You’re not making it happen, you’re not making the calls and you’re getting in front of the people who need your help in an authentic way. You are too busy trying to look good and play small,  i.e, comfortable.

Think about it. All that lies between you and your dreams is getting uncomfortable! Wow! Imagine that? Remember, I’m enjoying this success in my business from speaking my truth, dealing with my demons, getting uncomfortable, putting myself out there, speaking in front of hundreds of people and showing them how they too, can live their business dream and take risks. And believe me, this doesn't happen by being comfortable.

2. Dream bigger - If your dream is to just have enough to pay the bills, manage a few clients, have some money or nearly no money in the bank, well, then that’s all you will ever get. Is that really all you want?

Imagine just being able to afford anything you want, and not worrying “will there be enough money in the account to cover this”?

Is this your dream? Is that all you want? Surely not,  right?

If you could have anything you want - anything? If you were brave enough to write down every single thing you want to have, to achieve and to experience, how long would that list be?

Because, honestly? If you don’t have that list, or if you have a sad, small, tight little list then I hate to tell you, but you are closing off so much opportunity for yourself. You will never have any more than what you allow yourself to dream of - it is simply impossible.

3. Ask. Ask. Ask. The problem I see is that you don’t ask for enough. If you don’t ask, you don’t get, no matter what it is, in life and in business. You have to ask for what you want, for as much as you want and stop imagining(or foolishly hoping against hope) that  it will suddenly, magically,  fall into place, the heavens will open and luck will pour on you. Thats B.S.

Ask for what you want.

I asked that I would have a business that first would help my community, then I asked that I had a business helped people make their dreams come true while making my dreams come true and guess what - I have that business now! It just crossed the 60k mark for this year alone. 60k in the first quarter of this year, after just 18 months.  

And then I get a message like this:

“I had such a strong gut feeling that working with you was going to turn my business around and I am so glad I trusted that feeling because in just 8 weeks I’ve made €3000! I keep looking at my business bank account - because I can't believe there is actually money in it and I am paying myself a wage. I know I’m only on the cusp of what the possibilities are, with your help. It is exciting, scary and exhilarating! And what you’ve done with my message - I’ve never been able to sum up what I do in a way that people get! I am just thrilled at the thought of more ‘Health and Harmony’ babies on the planet, and mine and YOUR part in that journey” - Denise Health & Harmony, March 2017.

Imagine that? This brave woman trusted her gut, and made it work.

Realise and believe that it is ALL POSSIBLE and YOU are the POSSIBILITY! Every bone in your body, every breath you take, and every dream you create. You are the one who makes it all possible.

I know now, that making money is the easy part. Making meaning is the part we struggle with. So when you can have both of those pieces working for you, that’s inspiring. That’s when you can really make a difference in the world, make money faster and love what you do.

Sound good? Of course it sounds good! This is why we get into business in the first place.

This is my first blog offering for 2017 and I’m grateful to you for taking time out to connect with me. Thanks to trusty web analytics, I know that there are people dotted in different corners of the world reading these words. Honestly even just the thought of that sends a shiver of delight up my spine!

I imagine us all as a tribe of whole-hearted entrepreneurs working together to be the best we can be - in our community, in our businesses and in our personal lives. I feel honoured to be able to create and nourish you and my wish today is that I contribute to your piece of the world for the better.

So, where-ever you are reading this, whatever view you can see out your window,  whatever task is waiting for you next, for just right now - STOP. Close your eyes, take a breath and repeat after me.

‘I declare that I am going to make this year, 2017, the biggest and the best year my business and my life have ever experienced’

I make this type of declaration every day.  I have huge plans for my business, new programmes to develop, mind-blowing places to visit, big challenges to meet, learning curves to swirl around and incredible, inspiring people to work with. Some of my ideas have been lifelong ambitions that I have nestled close to my heart for years, others have popped into my mind and appeared in front of my eyes recently. Most of them are already well underway!

I made my world bigger and guess what? It just made room for bigger ideas! Honestly, some days it feels like there is inspiration raining down on me and I need more arms to catch it all!

But this is not a blog promoting random mindfulness or one that makes a sweeping gesture about how easy it is to begin manifesting what you want. No magic wand here folks. However,  I do have a pretty marvellous plan, which I make myself look at and develop every single day.

Often i have to critically re-evaluate it. And that plan has created magic in my life. You add really rigorous strategising to wild, heart-led imagination and then you are at the right starting point!  

Soooooooo….How’s YOUR plan? And when is the last time you looked at it? Does it need a bit of work, some new energy breathed into it? If it does - take another pause and schedule 30 mins within the next 48 hours to go back to it. I know you can manage half an hour.

Ok, good. Well done,  I am proud of you, let's continue.  

I want you to know that at the core of my strategic plan is ‘The Big Why’. For me, ‘The Big Why’ is influenced by a variety of core elements including:

  • I want to help business owners and entrepreneurs inspire their way to more clients, customers and profits.

  • I’m sick of seeing business owners not getting paid, not making any money, robbing Peter to pay Paul.

  • I KNOW it just doesn’t have to be that way! I want to it to stop and I know I can help people just like you. It’s what I was born to do.

Every single day I speak to business owners who are struggling with money, confused about their message, drowning in a million foggy things and trying to get ahead without having any real strategy. These are lovely, warm, brilliant people who had a dream and a good idea that they know SHOULD be working but… they are just about making ends meet.

Naturally, that is hard to stomach and the next stage is that they find that they have lost the inspiration, the spark and enthusiasm that made them want to begin business and be their own boss in the first place. They can no longer see or most importantly FEEL ‘The Big Why’.  

The tides have turned, they lose faith and vital energy and before long, the chance of making the difference they wanted to make in their lives.

And hopefully, that’s when they call me.

And we go straight to the heart of the matter - Profits.

Profits appear when you reconnect with the inspirational heart of your business. They don’t  come from tactics alone. Nor do they result solely from relying on tools like marketing. These elements are key (we know that) but without that diamond of inspiration, you cannot sustain the motivation and energy that will allow you to become the leader of your business.

And what can leaders look forward to?

  • Grow their world so big that it fits all the new ideas that are waiting to descend

  • And inspire your prospects to work with you and advocate new business for you

  • And give you that shiver of sheer delight as you watch your business truly take off.

That's when everything you do seems to work in your favor. That's when every action you take leads to something better.

So ... you might be asking:  How do I make this happen?

Well, you can start by asking yourself these three questions:

  • Am I making the difference I want to make?

  • Am I sharing my message? (Do i even know what my message is?)

  • Am I inspired?

If you answered ‘No’ or Erm I’m not sure’ or Huh? to any of these, then we need to talk. No doubt you’re lost in a bunch of gobbledy gook posts and tags in the ocean of the internet.

Frankly there is a whole lot of nothing online that is hard to navigate, wastes time and won’t help you make more money.

My 70 thousand euro miracle

2016 - The Year Of My Seventy Thousand Miracle....

Stay with me dear friends,  because I know that sounds over the top! I get it, I know. It might sound ridiculous, unrealistic, impossible and maybe even boastful. But guess what…

It. Is. True.

And

I. Feel. Proud.

I want to share the secret of my success with you. This is what I was born to do. So, on the final day of 2016 lets spend 10 minutes together and explore what is possible, telling only the truth and looking to the future with clear eyes and a firm footing. Ready?

Tell me - if you went from making absolutely nothing (zilch, nada, zero) to making 70K in 12 months - would you consider that a miracle?  

I did it in 2016 and I’m going to do it again in 2017. You want to know how I can say this with such certainty? Curious about how it’s possible that someone who made zero euro in 2015 could make 70k less than a year later?

I share my secrets with you, because this is what I was born to do. And my greatest wish is that you become the best, most powerful and productive version of yourself in business and in life. You can do it, and I can help you.

In 2016 I faced my biggest fear head on. I had to work hard, steel my nerves and prepare at length but I did it because it was THE major block to my success. I was determined to get my message out to as many entrepreneurs and business owners as possible, but spending hours on social media wasn’t working for me. I have the greatest impact for people in real life, I come alive interacting in person and the magic happens when my energy lights up a room. You can do a lot behind a computer of course, but you can’t do that.

I knew all this, I felt it in every fibre of my being, it consumed me. But I was Terrified. Afraid and Resistant. Of the very thing I needed to do way more of - speaking in public.

I faced the fear head on, I did the work and 12 months later,  I can honestly say that I have beaten it. From January to December I spoke at every possible opportunity at events in locations across Ireland the the USA. And I was really, really good at it - my diary is already getting booked out for 2017.

How Did I Do It?  

  1. I just went for it. I refused to listen to the fear gremlins. I would not let doubt stand in my way. And guess what I found out? Inspiring people to see that they can have the business and life they want beats those fear gremlins to a pulp! Ha Ha - take THAT fear!

  2. I sought help. I know I don’t know everything, none of us do! I love life-long learning, I’lI be growing and learning until the day I die. Bring it on. So, I found someone who already knew the path to guide me.  I didn’t have to reinvent the wheel (no-one does). I could simply apply my own magnetic abilities to a successful blue-print and go.

  3. I kept it simple for my clients. I never tried to make people understand my process or exactly what I do. I made it all about them and tailored it to THEIR business needs. My knowledge, networks and experience could transform their business- the best things is that for many, it has!

  4. I had a structure and strategy in place. This is the WORK. You have to work at your business in a strategic way -  Every. Single. Day. For every workshop, speaking event, group or one to one session I conduct, it’s only the tip of the iceberg. Underneath that tip is a huge amount of admin, office work, follow up, list building, research and more.

  5. I developed my brand. I honed my skills. I created a niche. One of the most profound ways I did this was by designing my signature talk. This is my authentic message, it speaks from my heart and it therefore cannot be replicated. I love sharing my story and I love that people all over the world are responding to it with gratitude and respect

I want you to understand something. This doesn’t have to be complicated or confusing. In fact, simplicity is key. When you know the steps that are unique to you, that will inspire your way to more clients and profits, you can create the business and life of your dreams.

You can do this. Listen to someone who knows, someone who has been there. From this point on, you get to be YOU.  You get to use your unique talents and abilities and dream big.  What you once thought was impossible has now changed to become merely a foundation for even bigger things in the future.

Because the miracle isn’t that I went from zero to 70K. It’s that I now have the ability to do it again and again and again as long as I want to. And, if you take just one thing away from this blog post, let it be this. You can have it too. It is not only possible for you, it’s within your reach. Do you want to grab it?

Imagine if I had let my fear win and stayed afraid of speaking? Imagine if i was still in the same place I was this time last year? Believe me, I know what it is like - running a business magnifies all your fears, it brings them all to the surface super fast. I sometimes think this journey of being an entrepreneur is like personal development on steroids. It is fast and I love it. I love the person I’m becoming, I love that I’m designing my future on my terms and I love that the more successful I become,  the more I can give back.

This year I've achieved things I've never imagined, in the last month alone, I've spoken on an international stage and I got 80% of the speaker vote. Inspire Your Way to The Business of Your Dreams — My 3 steps to Success

On paper, I had all the boxes checked. The apartment in the world’s most thrilling city. Exquisite dinners at restaurants. A closet full of clothes, the designer handbags, the shoes. Yet even with a life so full of invitations and important things, something lingered, leaving me feeling drab and lacking. Up until four years ago I had a full-time office job working at a nonprofit with young people in London preventing them from becoming homeless, and before that I worked in sales. It was an ultra fast-paced city life filled with jetsetting, parties, and fashion shows, and against all measures, it seemed like I should be happy. But instead, I felt uninspired and stuck.

I needed inspiration. I needed...Paris.  

It was then I made a decision that changed my life and my business forever. And I’m sharing this with you because I believe—from the bottom of my heart—that this shift in thinking will change your life and business as well.

Today, everything is different. I’m a business coach who works with entrepreneurs to build the thriving businesses they’ve always wanted, but that they didn’t think they could have. I share my story in hopes that you find something within it that ignites something inside of you—and that you learn to use inspiration to create the life you’ve always wanted.

Do you ever find yourself wondering what it would be like to live the life of your dreams?

 

Do you feel like there’s something more waiting for you—a life of filled with passion, adventure and fulfillment, free from the worries of how you’re going to pay for it?

This is the life I live now. I’m my own boss. My business has not only transformed my life, but my clients lives and even benefits my hometown. I quadrupled my income in the past three years, and am a sought-after speaker who travels internationally several times a year.

But as I begin to explain, it wasn’t always this way. My whole life changed only four short years ago, and I am so glad it did.

The year I turned 36, my life felt like a display window of a closed store—it all looked nice on the outside, but it felt empty. The indecision of what to do next and where to go built up inside me until there was nothing I could do but something dramatic to escape.

So right after my birthday I hopped on the Eurostar to Paris, the city of lights and romance to sort out where to go next. I left everyone and everything I had built in London behind, and jumped into the freshness of a Paris, alive with possibility. As I sat at a Parisian cafe, sipping cafe au lait and making lists—of jobs, of places to move to, of new possibilities. Nothing felt right, or like what I needed. Until I heard a small voice in the back of my mind whispering, “Donegal”.

Until I was 18, I lived in Donegal, in Northwest Ireland, and as soon as I could I began traveling the world, building homes in Budapest, Madrid, and New York before settling in London where I had been living for the past six years. Honestly, I had never entertained the thought of moving home. Growing up, I couldn’t wait to leave. But here I was, croissant crumbs and my journal, and the thought of going back to Ireland flooded me with a feeling of peace. Clearly, my heart was on board.

I came back to London from my Parisian adventure, and left my 9-5 job. I bought a car and began to pack the most essential belongings of my life into it. Over the next two weeks I said goodbye to the roaring London city-life, and drove the 11 hours to my Irish countryside hometown.

As I drove to Donegal, I was immediately filled with an overwhelming sense of peace, excitement and freedom—and I’m so glad I was, because I still didn’t have any of the answers! The contrast of what would be my new pace of life settled in slowly as I drove, and I recalled the sense of appreciation I felt taking in my country’s natural landscapes. Once I arrived, things started falling into place. My grandmother’s cottage that had been vacant for 30 years became my new home. I'd never in a million years imagined this life for myself, but it felt so right. 

 

I was struck with an overwhelming sense of love for the natural beauty of Donegal, the Gaeltacht region where I'm from is often nicknamed Ireland’s “cradle of culture”, and for good reason. I remember thinking omg I can speak Gaelige, I hadn't for almost 15 years, now it was so important to me. I was inspired by how wildly creative the place was —everyone's a singer, an artist, or a musician. Add that to the scenery of beautiful mountains, lush green valleys, and glistening lakes, golden beaches...naturally, I felt wildly inspired.

Yet, at the time, all around me, I saw under-appreciated potential, creativity, resources and beauty. People were struggling, businesses were closing, and many were moving away in search of something new—despite the level of beauty and potential in front of them. I just felt it was all so unnecessary. 

The small-town authenticity was what made the place so special, but at the same time, was stuck. Not many tourists or visitors. Having just come out of this feeling of stagnancy in my own life, I felt a resonance with the struggles of the place and I decided to leverage my excitement for the place and attract people to the area with a tourism-based business, and grow a business I loved while inspiring others to visit and have their own adventures. My background in travel and sales provided me the skills, and the landscape filled in the details. My mission was to rekindle the local people’s passion for the place they live, and to bring in international travellers for fresh new energy.

I took my message to the people and businesses, getting a mixed response. Some locals were doubtful some were wildly supportive, and a lot of people asked me why I bothered trying. I heard reactions like “What happens if it doesn’t work?” There were many excuses why people thought tourists wouldn’t want to come here—the fact that we were in a deep recession, the weather, the location, and so on.

Amidst the doubt and skepticism, I had to stick to my intuition which told me to keep going. In truth, I knew something they didn’t—that when you can be an inspiration to others, obstacles don’t matter. I knew that I could tap into the power of inspiration to exponentially grow my sales, attract clients, and ultimately, grow a thriving business—and that is exactly what happened. My attitude of excitement drew in more and more business.

 

In only 3 short years, we brought over 1000 people to Donegal!

When other businesses saw how successful I was, they started to ask me for my help to grow theirs. I started coaching one, then another, and it just took off like that. I’ve gone from booking tours to coaching business owners worldwide on how to grow their businesses through inspiration-based sales, leading inspirational business retreats and and in the process, quadrupling my income. My life now, is filled with excitement, and I get to speak at events in Ireland, England, and the USA. I offer Ireland’s first inspirational business retreat for women I hold business retreats here in my hometown that are designed to empower entrepreneurs and showcase the hidden gems in this magical place. And the amazing thing is—it all came from inspiration. Not a script, not a formula, not something that felt awful or that I hated. But something that was perfect for me. And that’s exactly what I see as possible for you.

The best part of this story is that my success is not unique to me. Because when you use inspiration as your fuel, anything is possible. I have helped so many entrepreneurs achieve similar levels of success. I have made it my mission to empower entrepreneurs to create thriving businesses and lives they love, not through being pushy or salesy, but by naturally inspiring people and owning their own value too.

3 steps to inspire your way to success - without being salesy

The most important key is this: The fastest path to the business and life of your dreams does not go through some complicated outside formula. But from what you’re already good at, and what already makes your heart sing..... Tap into that as well as these steps.

Step 1. Believe in what you do.

When you're confident in what you offer, people have more faith in what you deliver as well, and you will get more clients. This is the most foolproof path to profits. The problem I see most often is that that people think that believing in themselves is self-centered. Despite what you might think, believing in what you’re doing is NOT pushy, desperate, or salesy. In fact, it’s actually the most authentic way to inspire more clients to work with you and grow your business. Believing in what you do attracts clients to you!

Step 2. Find out what your clients want.

Before you think about selling, you have to find out what your clients want. If you don’t know, you’re really gambling with your future. The problem is, most of us don’t know what our clients really want so sales then becomes a nightmare of trying to “get them” to buy. When you know what your clients want, selling is easy because you’re giving them a faster path to what they’re already looking for. This way, before you start, you’re already 60% of the way to “Yes!” and your clients are receptive to offers. 

Step 3. The Personal Touch:  People buy from People

We are all human—we like to support people and brands we trust. When you show up as who you are, you build trust with your audience. Being personal also makes you more memorable, and being memorable leads to more customers. Show your clients you really care about their success, and your sales will increase because your prospects are buying from someone they trust and connect with. People also know who you are and what you stand for, so they feel better about referring people to you. Some entrepreneurs believe that sounding “corporate”, or bigger than you are is the key to profit, but the truth is that this actually stands in your way. Most entrepreneurs are also afraid of picking up the phone and calling prospects, when it’s actually the best way to connect with potential clients.

Enrolling clients by inspiring people is the most personally gratifying and surefire formula to grow your business. My hope in sharing my story and these tools is that you incorporate the principle of “sales through inspiration” to build the business and live the deeply fulfilling life you’ve always dreamt of.
